The Teac X-2000R reel to reel is one of my most favourite domestic
recorders, its sound quality is second to none and by far one of the
best looking domestic machines I have ever seen. This recorder is the
last reel to reel Teac made, (Tascam carried on but not in the domestic
market), running from 1982 to 1991 , this was a very popular tape
recorder hand has appeared on television and films many limes like in
"Pulp Fiction". These recorder where built with the "no expense spared"
approach, the recorder contains a small computer controlling the
electronics and motors, high sensitivity optical sensors on the tape
tension system relay information back to the processor so well, there is
no need for the user to select if the machine is using 10.5" reels or
smaller reels which most other cheaper large format recorders have.
This recorder features endless loop replay, using a magnetic foil, the tape will change direction then once the tape counter reaches zero, the machine changes direction again, thanks to the 6 head system, this recorder also records in both directions, many bi-directional reel to reels only have 4 heads and do not record in the opposite direction. The dual capstan design keeps a constant tension over the heads whilst playing, also this design reduces the effect of wow and flutter. One of Teacs unique features found on all of their high end recorder is the DBX recording and replay filter, the early Teacs had this as an optional extra but on this machine, the DBX decoder is built in. This filter has an amazing signal to noise ratio of +100dB! this is higher than Dolby! and higher than your average CD player! These machines are ready to be plugged into any good amplifier, the line inputs and line outputs are standard RCA phono connectors, the microphone sockets on the front are standard 6.5mm or 1/4 inch jack plugs, the headphones are the same style jack. This recorder has an option to have a remote plugged into the the front, unlike the earlier machines, these recorders use serial control rather than parallel control which makes the remote cables allot thinner.
Below are pictures of the recorder for sale, all the pictures can be enlarged to a high resolution picture by clicking on them. |
